EXPLORING EROTIC CHARGE
IN THE THERAPUTOC RELATIONSHIP
Allison Priestman
Saturday 11th February

WELLAND VALLEY CPD
Kettering , Northants,
£90

About the Workshop…….Strong feelings of love or attraction in the therapy room are often experienced as scary and disruptive. In training and supervision erotic feelings are sometimes not explored, or else the emphasis is on suppressing them. Yet they are a very frequent part of therapy, and, I suggest, an inevitable effect of the intimacy and intensity of the relationship and the encouragement it offers to surrender to spontaneity.

More than that, erotic charge can be a powerful tool for therapeutic change. This workshop will focus on learning to accept and explore erotic charge while still maintaining appropriate boundaries, and on making creative use of the experience and everything that it brings up.

My aim for the day would be to encourage safety and trust so that practitioners can explore in some depth this complex and challenging subject matter, especially their own material around being attracted to and attractive to clients. –
Allison Priestman

Allison will work with here and now exercises, with client material, and group discussion, offering supervision and bringing in theory.
Depending on the group interest,  themes that can be explored are - Self disclosure, power dynamics, same sex attraction, working with our own embodied responses, touch and the erotic, the role of re-enactment, boundaries and boundlessness and many more themes.
Allison holds that sexuality is central to our experience of being human and that creating an openness to exploring sexuality in the therapy can be invaluable, that erotic charge can take many forms and potentially provides a live way of working with a client’s issues. Allison’s workshops all aim to provide a safe, stimulating and stretching training and supervisory learning environment.

Due to the subject matter of this workshop we are limiting numbers to 12 maximum to offer a smaller more intimate group. Early booking is strongly advised. This training is for qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists.
